The community consultation relating to a potential Arran Wind Farm was a great success. 144 people participated over 3 days. People either took part on their doorsteps on Thursday 26 th January, or participated at our events held at Lamlash Community Centre (27th January 2006) or Whiting Bay Village Hall (28th January 2006). The most attended event was on the Saturday at Whiting Bay, with 72 participants taking part.
The majority of participants came from the Lamlash area although Whiting Bay people were well represented. A few travelled down from Brodick and the north of the island and from the west near Blackwaterfoot to find out about the potential wind farm.
From the responses received the majority of those attending liked the idea of a wind farm. Some of the positive comments received were:
“Could be a brilliant opportunity to open up some scenic access paths through the area”.
“Power has to come from somewhere, so I would rather have wind than coal or nuclear”.
“I have no problem with the prospect of a wind farm, as I find wind turbines very graceful to look at”.
There were a minority of participants who raised concerns, included the effect on wildlife, the visual impact and noise.
As we progress with the project an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) will be undertaken.
Arran Wind Power would like to thank those who were able to participate in the consultation and we are certain that the responses received will influence the type and location of the project we take forward.
