LOGO COMPETITION WINNER

Kieran Robertson (aged 9) from Kildonan is the winner of the Arran Wind Power ‘Design a Logo’ competition. The very striking logo shows a turbine tower with roots and a silhouette of Arran in the background. The judges who included Nick Giles and Tommy Fitchet from Arran Art Gallery, Kenny Bone (Farmer and Developer), Craig Potter (Project Manager) and Rob Forrest (Managing Director) said they liked the design as it very much reflected the impression of Arran being a ‘Green’ Island, and symbolised the fact that the project has its roots on Arran. It was also felt that it was appropriate that the turbine tower had roots as the turbines are going to be located on Forestry Commission land in the south of the Island.

The logo is now displayed on the website www.arranwindpower.co.uk and will be displayed on any company promotional material.

Arran Wind Power would like to thank all those who took part in the competition (everyone will receive a letter of thanks in the next few weeks). The judges said that “the standard of entry was very high and it was a difficult decision”. The company would also like to give a special thanks to Nick Giles and Tommy Fitchet (www.arranartgallery.com) who organised the professional enhancing of the winning design.

The overall winner received a voucher from Lamlash Art Shop to purchase art supplies up to a value of £30.

The winner for the over 18 category was Ian Saint-Yves of Whiting Bay. He also received a voucher from Lamlash Art Shop.

In relation to how the wind farm project is progressing. Craig Potter, Project Manager, has informed the Banner that work has been continuing throughout the summer. Various surveys have been undertaken such as bird, mammal and vegetation. Currently a landscape study is being undertaken to assess the landscape and visual effect of the wind farm on Arran as well as Ayrshire and Kintyre. In addition the formal consultations with the local authority are continuing and Arran Wind Power are endeavouring to complete all of the various detailed surveys in preparation for a planning application to be submitted in the New Year.
